Newspaper Articles Reporting on KLC's Activities

"Students That Have the Privilege to Start First With Reform"

According to Koha Ditore newspaper, the delay to start law studies after the Kosovo War was initially caused by the failure of the University of Pristina Law Faculty to support a proposed curriculum provided to them from the the Kosovo Law Centre. However, in time the attitude of the law faculty became more cooperative and supportive of KLC's involvement at the University of Pristina Law Faculty. In the article, Rector Dr. Z. Kelmendi and Dean Dr. M. Mehmeti said that the Law Faculty was better equipped. They stressed to their law students, "Now, you will be equal with others in Europe". (Koha Ditore- 24/October/2000)

Newspaper Review of KLC Seminar "Alternative Dispute Resolution on Family Issues"

"Why Not Allow Women to Have Their Own Rights?"

In its review of the day long seminar sponsored by the Kosovo Law Centre on the 9 February 2001, Bota Sot acknowledged comments by the National Co-Director of the Kosovo Law Centre, Prof.Gani Oruçi, and his emphasis on the models used by Western Europe and the United States. Oruçi explained how the practice of Alternative Dispute Resolution provides positive results, and has proven to be rational, efficient, and necessary to the legal system in Kosova. The newspaper went on to highlight a presentation made by Flora Macula, Program Manager of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). She explained how gender roles start from the first day of the child's birth. She stressed the need for parents to redefine their roles for themselves in the family unit, other than the ones they were forced to accept by the influences of their family and social circles. According to Macula, that means eliminating the false idea that women are supposed to be obedient housewives to their husbands, to perform all duties inside the home, and to be agreeable to their husbands, mother-in-laws, or head of families.
